Description of curriculum and courses offered

Hulo Integrated School is adhering to the mandate of the Department of Education on delivering quality education to all Filipino children.

The education agenda of the current administration is known as MATATAG:

Bansang Makabata, Batang Makabansa, which sets the new direction of the

agency and stakeholders in resolving basic education challenges.

The MATATAG Agenda has four critical components:

MAke the curriculum relevant to produce competent and job-ready, active,

and responsible citizens.

TAke steps to accelerate delivery of basic education facilities and services.

TAke good care of learners by promoting learner well-being, inclusive

education, and a positive learning environment; and

Give support to teachers to teach better.

Curricular Offering

Hulo Integrated School offers kindergarten and Grades 1 to 10.

It belongs to the large category with 102 teachers managed by a School Principal IV.

Kindergarten

With the advent of the MATATAG Curriculum, the kindergarten curriculum aims to produce active young Filipino learners who are holistically developed and equipped with 21st century skills. Hence, the Curriculum is designed to:

● Foster development of learners’ identity, social and emotional development, cognitive ability, physical health, and positive attitudes.

● Develop learners’ 21st century skills.

● Provide learners with experiences that are actively engaging in meaning-making through hands-on activities.

● Provide learners with varied opportunities to enjoy activities that are developmentally appropriate.

● Stimulate learners’ intellectual ability, creativity, communication skills, and critical thinking.

● Enhance learners’ spirit of teamwork through collaborative activities.

● Foster learning experiences and content that are nationalistic and culturally responsive, compatible, and relevant to the learner.

Kindergarten Education espouses a learner-centered curriculum that aims to develop holistic learners equipped with foundational skills imbued with physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and values development. This is attained through play-based learning which is anchored on the developmentally - appropriate practices and theories with consideration of learners’ expanding environment toward life-long learning.

The K–12 Basic Education Program in the Philippines includes the Kindergarten Curriculum, which is created to give children aged 5–6 the fundamental knowledge and skills they need to grow and learn. It strives to foster holistic growth in young learners in a playful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate way while preparing them for formal learning.

In the context of the school, it offers eight sections with two sessions. There are four teachers who are handling the kindergarten learners.

Elementary -Grades 1-6

The elementary school, which serves Grades 1 through 6, is also offered by Hulo Integrated School. Grades 1 and 4 are now following the revised curriculum as a result of the Phase I implementation of the MATATAG Curriculum. These are the MATATAG Curriculum trial grades for Key Stages 1 and 2. The Grade 1 MATATAG curriculum emphasizes improving reading and numeracy skills while reducing the number of study areas from seven to just five. Reading, literacy, and language are the three new topic areas. They exhibit the Makabansa. These subject matters are thoughtfully chosen,
rather than just merging or integrating the existing topic sections. There are still grades 2, 3, 5, and 6 that follow the outdated curriculum.

Although it falls under the new MATATAG curriculum, Grade Four is covered by it. English, Filipino, Math, Science, Araling Panlipunan, MAPEH, GMRC, and TLE are the subjects covered in Grade Four. The learning competencies are not congested in any of the learning areas. Learning areas and grade levels alike are encouraged to support students' development of 21st century abilities.

Junior High School

Hulo Integrated School also offers Grades 7-10 or Junior High School.  The JHS curriculum is designed to be contextualized and spiraled, meaning concepts are revisited with increasing complexity in each grade level. The junior high school curriculum is based on the K–12 Basic Education Program. Grades 7 through 10 are covered at junior high school, which is a component of the Department of Education's mandatory education program (DepEd). Grade 7 is under the Phase I implementation of the so-called MATATAG Curriculum. There are eight subjects throughout Grades 7 to 10. These are the English, Science, Mathematics, Araling Panlipunan, MAPEH, TLE, and Values Education With the advent of the MATATAG Curriculum, the learning competencies in the different subjects in Key Stage 3 especially in Grade 7 are already decongested. Students who complete the curriculum will be ready for senior high school, college, the workforce, or entrepreneurship. It places a strong emphasis on holistic development and seeks to give students the tools they need for both career and life pathways. The curriculum is aligned with the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. Digital literacy and collaborative learning are also given importance.
